Solution Focused Hypnotherapy

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (SFH), focuses on solutions rather then problems; it avoids ‘problem’ talk.  It is designed to help reduce a number of things including anxiety, stress or emotional problems whilst encouraging calm in the mind.    During solution focused hypnotherapy, psychotherapy is used to enhance hypnotherapy, this combination enables beneficial changes to be made through the subconscious mind.

It is important to understand, change happens because you want it to and because you are prepared to take the necessary steps to allow it to happen.  You can not be hypnotised during this kind of therapy to do anything against your will. During solution focused sessions hypnotic suggestions made that are designed to benefit you to change unhelpful thought patterns, your subconscious will reject suggestions that are not appropriate for you.  There is no magic involved, it is not something that is ‘done to you’, we work together collaboratively.

The psychotherapy I practice does not involve analysing or repeatedly re-visiting painful memories from the past. If you have experienced unpleasant events,  we can acknowledge they happened without going into detail and then focus on helping you move on from the point you are currently at, to where you would like to be.

During an initial consultation we talk about the things you would like to achieve.  I shall explain, the workings of some key areas of our brain, why we feel the way we do at times and how positive change can be made.  This can help with understanding why, you have felt/behaved a certain way; making it easier to make sense of maybe some of the difficulties you may have experienced.  By the end of this consultation I will be able assess if SFH is an appropriate means of therapy for you.  There is no obligation for you to commit to future sessions, you know you better than anyone else so will know if this feels right for you.

Each of the sessions following an initial consultation comprises of revision of key areas of the brain important in creating and facilitating change. We will talk about the positive progress you have made and focus on solutions rather than re visit problems.  I shall help you imagine your preferred future, then guide you into a relaxed state of hypnosis enabling you to start making beneficial changes you desire.
